Holistic Advantages and Impediments Team Review

Single or multi-team initiative has completed and it's time to have everyone review the structure of the teams and processes for improvement. This is a relatively longer session because it's meant to be a deeper dive. The intention is to link what is in team control, what isn't, and what existing advantages they could leverage in the next project. It's also a moment to consider role adjustments, based on what people want to do and think they do well as an outcome of completing this particular project. -------------- Do NOT review the results for each column within the session UNTIL instructed below! Disable voting and hide the cards. We want to ensure we have active participation and if someone sees something written they agree with, they won't write a card. Obtaining a visual of a shared perspective is empowering! Plus, similar cards can easily be merged. We also want to make sure we have enough time to obtain cards for each column. -------------- C1 - 5-10min "Personal Growth": Ask members to list out ways they've improved individually or improvements identified that they want to pursue next as a result of what they experienced from doing the work. C2 - 5min "Take Inventory": Ask members to identify what they do well, either as an individual contributor, team, process, etc. C3 & C4 - 10-15min "High-level Root Cause": Ask members to think about an impediment they faced, regardless if it's since been resolved or remains open, and then place it in the column that represents where they believe it originates. This helps spark self-ownership and asking for support based on what is/isn't in their direct control. C5 & C6 - 10min "Give Credit": Ask members to identify moments/processes/individuals/teams which they believe deserve acknowledgement as advantages that could be considered leverageable in future projects. C7 - 45min "Connecting the Dots": Un-hide the cards but leave voting disabled. Wow moment. Go through the columns left-right, and while doing so, add items into this column based on feedback. You don't need to review them; the goal is just to collect them because this is a lengthy process and if time runs out, it's easy to have follow up session to brainstorm next steps. C8 - 30min "Making Improvement Real": Talk about the next steps and assign an owner. These should be profoundly unique to the feedback from the session. Through the considerations of the format, much guesswork should be removed, leading to high success rate of completion of the action items leading to actual improvements.
