Heard, Seen, Respected (HSR) Team building

What is this activity?

This template helps teams reflect on how they are treated during work. It’s all about how team members feel: Are they being heard when they speak? Are their efforts noticed? Are they treated with respect? The goal is to improve how the team communicates and supports one another. For example, someone might share that they felt heard when their idea was added to the sprint. Another might say they didn’t feel respected when their work was criticized unfairly. These stories help teams build stronger, more respectful connections!

Heard, Seen, Respected (HSR) Template

🗣️ Heard

Did you feel listened to? Were your thoughts and ideas given space?

👀 Seen

Were your efforts noticed and recognized by others?

🤝 Respected

Were you treated with kindness and fairness? Did others value your input?

How to conduct this activity

Ask your team to think about the last sprint and reflect on how they felt in different situations. Give them a chance to add cards to each column based on their experience. This could be about meetings, teamwork, communication, or decisions made during the sprint. Once the notes are added, read through them together. Allow time for open and honest discussion. Focus on listening and learning from each other, not judging. This exercise works best in a safe space where everyone feels free to speak.
